About Shaftesbury Town

This site has been created to serve as a free voice for the people of Shaftesbury, with a focus on interactivity and ease of use it is home to an online community hub, information about the town, a directory of local businesses, latest news, events and history.

The Shaftesbury Town website is run by volunteers, it is completely independent and funded entirely by minor advertising. That means not one penny of public funds has been used to create this site, contrasted with the thousands of pounds of valuable tax payer money wasted on the "official" website. It's fair to say wasted because when the tendering process for building the current "official" site was made this site (albeit an earlier incarnation in 2005) was offered completely free for the disposal of the council and people of the town, but was turned down. Even today, when you place the sites side by side we know most people will see the better site, the site which welcomes and encourages interaction from the community.

If you ever want to get involved, be it as little as chatting in the forums all the way to writing news stories and helping run the site then please register, and join in. Everyone is welcome.
