Local Elections Deal Blow to Council

As the Underhill Ward election results are released, giving victory to John Lewer, the sitting council are dealt a clear message from the electorate that the residents of Underhill are unhappy. By-elections, even on the micro scale of Shaftesbury, are an insightful barometer of public opinion and in this election the two candidates stood on very clear, opposite, platforms. John Lewer made his feelings known that he was against the actions of the current council while Laurence Malden described recent negativity towards the council as saddening.
 

Hole Opens in Shaftesbury Highstreet

For countless years there have been rumours and folklore of lay tunnels, secret passages and underground rooms so when the local water company lost a drilling mole while installing a new water main on Friday (8th) curiosity go the better me and I went to take a look. Apparently while boring between two points in the High street the mole was lost, just in front of King Alf's, and they took up pavement to retrieve it finding that it has fallen into an underground chamber.

After a brief hiatus the Shaftesbury Town web site is back, with a fantastic new look and a totally new focus on being a social network for the town. The site is now totally interactive and we encourage anyone to get involved. From making friends in the forums, to submitting news & events or just putting up your holiday snaps of our town this really is a open site.
